Commonly Distorted Verses

SAVED BY GRACE

1)  Eph. 2:8-9 - For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God—not by works, so that no one can boast.

2)  Titus 3:5 - he saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of his mercy. He saved us through the washing of rebirth and renewal by the Holy Spirit,

It is clear that we are saved by grace and not by works.  But what does it mean to be "saved by grace?"  Many people think that "saved by grace" means that it doesn't matter what we do as Christians, but this belief contradicts hundreds of scriptures in the Bible.  "Saved by grace" means that God chose us, rather than we chose Him or did something else to obtain our salvation.  The following verses illustrate what it means to be "saved by grace":

 Eph. 1:4-7, Eph. 2:4-5,
1 Cor. 1:30, Gal. 1:15-16, 2 Tim. 1:9,
Rom. 9:11-16, and:

Rom. 11:5 - So too, at the present time there is a remnant chosen by grace. And if by grace, then it is no longer by works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.
