WHAT
DOES THE BIBLE TEACH?

Mat.
28:19-20 - Therefore go and make disciples of all nations,
baptizing
them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I
am with you always, to the very end of the age."

John 2:3-6 - We know that we have come to know him if we
obey his
commands. The man who says, "I know him," but does not do what he
commands is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But if anyone obeys
his word, God's love is truly made complete in him. This is how we know
we are in him: Whoever claims to live in him must walk as Jesus did.

John 5:3-4 - This is love for God: to obey his commands.
And his
commands are not burdensome, for everyone born of God overcomes the
world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.

This is not salvation by works. In Rom. 7:6 Paul writes, "But
now, by dying to what
once
bound us, we have been released from the law so that we serve in the
new way of the Spirit, and not in the old way of the written
code." Jesus promised to give His followers the Holy
Spirit,
who "will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have
said to you" (John 14:26).
Obedience to God's commandments
comes
from having true faith in Him (Rom. 1:5).
Faith is shown by
how
you live (James
2:14-26), and even faith is a gift from God (Eph. 2:8-9,
2 Pet 1:1).
This list of commands is here to help
people
learn how God wants them to live, but it is the Lord who changes a
person
(2 Cor.
5:17-18) and helps him to remember His commandments (John 14:26).

LOVE
Mark
12:28-31
- One of the
teachers of the law came and heard them debating. Noticing that Jesus
had given
them a good answer, he asked him, "Of all the commandments, which is
the
most important?" "The most important one," answered Jesus,
"is this: 'Hear, O Israel, the Lord our God, the Lord is one. Love the
Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all
your mind
and with all your strength.' The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as
yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these."
John 15:12-13
- My command is this: Love each other as I have loved you. Greater love
has no one than this, that he lay down his life for his friends.
Rom. 12:9-10
- Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be
devoted to one another in brotherly love. Honor one another above
yourselves.
Rom. 13:8-10
- Let no debt remain outstanding, except the continuing debt to love
one another, for he who loves his fellowman has fulfilled the
law. The commandments, "Do not commit adultery," "Do not
murder,"
"Do not steal," "Do not covet," and whatever other commandment there
may be, are summed up in this one rule: "Love your neighbor as
yourself." Love does no harm to its neighbor. Therefore love
is
the fulfillment of the law.

Cor. 16:13-14 - Be on your guard; stand firm in the faith;
be men of courage; be strong. Do everything in love.
Eph.
5:1-2 - Be
imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children and live a life
of love, just as Christ loved us and gave himself up for us as a
fragrant offering and sacrifice to God.
Heb.
13:1-3 - Keep on loving each other as
brothers. Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so
doing some people have entertained angels without knowing
it. Remember those in prison as if you were their fellow
prisoners, and those who are mistreated as if you yourselves were
suffering.
1 Pet. 1:22 - Now
that you have purified yourselves by obeying the truth so that you have
sincere love for your brothers, love one another deeply, from the heart.

Pet. 4:8 - Above all, love each other deeply, because love
covers over a multitude of sins.
1 John 3:16-18
- This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for
us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has
material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on
him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love
with words or tongue but with actions and in truth.
ANGER
Mat. 5:22 -
But I say unto you, That
whosoever is angry with his brother without a cause shall be in danger
of the
judgment: and whosoever shall say to his brother, Raca, shall be in
danger of
the council: but whosoever shall say, Thou fool, shall be in danger of
hell
fire. (KJV)
Eph. 4:31 -
Get rid of all
bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form
of
malice.
James
1:19-20 - My dear brothers,
take note of this: Everyone should be quick to listen, slow to speak
and slow
to become angry, for man's anger does not bring about the righteous
life that
God desires.
TAMING
THE TONGUE
Eph. 4:29 -
Do not let any
unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for
building
others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who
listen.
Eph. 5:4 -
Nor should there be
obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but
rather
thanksgiving.
James 1:26 -
If anyone considers
himself religious
and yet does not keep a tight rein on his tongue, he deceives
himself and his religion is worthless.
James 3:6 -
The tongue also is a
fire, a world of evil among the parts of the body. It corrupts the
whole
person, sets the whole course of his life on fire, and is itself set on
fire by
hell.
James 3:10 -
Out of the same mouth
come praise and cursing. My brothers, this should not be.
SWEARING
Mat.
5:34-37
- But I tell you, Do not
swear at all: either by heaven, for it is God's throne; or by the
earth, for it
is his footstool; or by Jerusalem, for it is the city of the Great
King. And do
not swear by your head, for you cannot make even one hair white or
black.
Simply let your 'Yes' be 'Yes,' and your 'No,' 'No'; anything beyond
this comes
from the evil one.
James
5:12 -
Above all, my brothers,
do not swear—not by heaven or by earth or by anything else.
Let your
"Yes" be yes, and your "No," no, or you will be condemned.
COMPLAINING
Philip.
2:14-16 - Do everything without
complaining or arguing, so that you may become blameless and pure,
children of
God without fault in a crooked and depraved generation, in which you
shine like
stars in the universe as you hold out the word of life...
James 5:9 -
Don't grumble against
each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at
the door!
BEING
CONTENT
Philip. 4:12 -
I know what it is to be
in need, and I know what it is to have plenty. I have learned the
secret of
being content in any and every situation, whether well fed or hungry,
whether
living in plenty or in want.
Heb. 13:5 -
Keep your lives free from
the love of money and be content with what you have, because God has
said,
"Never will I leave you; never will I forsake you."
SEXUAL
IMMORALITY
Mat. 5:27-30
- "You have heard
that it was said, 'Do not commit adultery.' But I tell you that anyone
who
looks at a woman lustfully has already committed adultery with her in
his
heart. If your right eye causes you to sin, gouge it out and throw it
away. It
is better for you to lose one part of your body than for your whole
body to be
thrown into hell. And if your right hand causes you to sin, cut it off
and
throw it away. It is better for you to lose one part of your body than
for your
whole body to go into hell.
Eph. 5:3 -
But among you there must
not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or
of
greed, because these are improper for God's holy people.
WORRYING
Luke
12:22 -
Then Jesus said to his
disciples: "Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what
you
will eat; or about your body, what you will wear.
Philip. 4:6 -
Do not be anxious about
anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving,
present
your requests to God.
OBEYING
AUTHORITY
Rom. 13:1-2
- Everyone must submit
himself to the governing authorities, for there is no authority except
that
which God has established. The authorities that exist have been
established by
God. Consequently, he who rebels against the authority is rebelling
against
what God has instituted, and those who do so will bring judgment on
themselves.
1 Pet.
2:13-17 - Submit yourselves
for the Lord's sake to every authority instituted among men: whether to
the
king, as the supreme authority, or to governors, who are sent by him to
punish
those who do wrong and to commend those who do right. For it is God's
will that
by doing good you should silence the ignorant talk of foolish men. Live
as free
men, but do not use your freedom as a cover-up for evil; live as
servants of
God. Show proper respect to everyone: Love the brotherhood of
believers, fear
God, honor the king.
HUMILITY
Luke 14:11 -
For everyone who exalts
himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."
Gal. 6:3 -
If anyone thinks he is
something when he is nothing, he deceives himself.
Eph. 4:2 -
Be completely humble and
gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.
SELFLESSNESS
Rom.
15:2-3
- Each of us should please his neighbor for his good, to build him up.
For even Christ did not please himself but, as it is written: "The
insults of those who insult you have fallen on me."
1 Cor. 10:24
- Nobody should seek his
own good, but the good of others.
Philip. 2:3 -
Do nothing out of selfish
ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than
yourselves.

SLANDERING
CELESTIAL BEINGS
2 Pet.
2:10-12 - ...Bold and arrogant, these men are not afraid
to slander
celestial
beings; yet even angels, although they are stronger and more powerful,
do not
bring slanderous accusations against such beings in the presence of the
Lord.
But these men blaspheme in matters they do not understand....
Jude 1:8-10
- In the very same way, these dreamers pollute their own bodies, reject
authority and slander celestial beings. But even the archangel Michael,
when he
was disputing with the devil about the body of Moses, did not dare to
bring a
slanderous accusation against him, but said, "The Lord rebuke you!"
Yet these men speak abusively against whatever they do not understand...
If
you
speak evil against Satan and his demons, you are stooping to their
level. We must not
fight evil with evil but fight evil
with good (Rom. 12:17,
Rom. 12:21).
VARIOUS
SINS
Exod. 20:7 -
Thou shalt not take the
name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him
guiltless that
taketh his name in vain. (KJV)
The Hebrew
word for “vain” in this verse means:
1. emptiness, vanity, falsehood
a.
emptiness, nothingness,
vanity
b.
emptiness of speech, lying

worthlessness (of conduct)

Using the
Lord’s name when not
talking to Him or about Him is sin, unless there is some other value to
it, and
it doesn't disgrace His name.
Psalm 101:3
- I will set before my
eyes no vile thing. The deeds of faithless men I hate; they will not
cling to
me.
Col. 3:5-8 -
Put to death, therefore,
whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity,
lust,
evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. Because of these, the wrath
of God
is coming. You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived.
But now
you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage,
malice,
slander, and filthy language from your lips.

yourselves of all malice and all deceit, hypocrisy, envy, and slander

STUDYING
THE WORD
Hosea 4:6 -
my people are destroyed

Eph. 6:18 -
And pray in the Spirit on

sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed.

Luke 6:34-36 -

opportunity, because the days are evil. Therefore do not be foolish,
but
understand what the Lord's will is. Do not get drunk on wine, which

Cor. 6:9-10 - Do you not

the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived:
Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male
prostitutes
nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor
slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God.
Gal.
5:19-21 - The acts of
the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and
debauchery;
idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage,
selfish
ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the
like. I
warn you, as I did before, that those who live like this will not
inherit the
kingdom of God.
Eph.
5:5 - For of this you
can be sure: No immoral, impure or greedy person—such a man
is an idolater—has
any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.
Rev.
21:8 - But the cowardly, the unbelieving,
the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic
arts,
the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery
lake of burning
sulfur. This is the second death." |
