Christ's commands
and various sins

Mat. 7:13 - "Enter through the narrow gate. For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and many enter through it. But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.

When we surrendered our lives to Christ and began to read the Bible, we saw many verses that are rarely talked about or preached.  We were convicted to make a list of these verses to see what they look like together.  We believe that these verses describe what Jesus called "the narrow gate."  Although many of these verses can appear to portray salvation by works, this is all accomplished by God's grace and the transforming power of the Holy Spirit (Eph. 2:8-10, 2 Cor. 1:12).

JESUS THE ONLY WAY TO HEAVEN

John 3:18 - Whoever believes in him is not condemned, but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because he has not believed in the name of God's one and only Son.

John 3:36 - Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God's wrath remains on him."

John 14:6 - Jesus answered, "I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Acts 4:12 - Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved."

Rom. 6:23 - For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

1 John 5:12 - He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

MAKE EVERY EFFORT TO BE HOLY

Luke 13:23-24 - Someone asked him, "Lord, are only a few people going to be saved?" He said to them, "Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to.

Heb. 4:11 - Let us, therefore, make every effort to enter that rest [heaven], so that no one will fall by following their example of disobedience.

Heb. 12:14-15 - Make every effort to live in peace with all men and to be holy; without holiness no one will see the Lord. See to it that no one misses the grace of God and that no bitter root grows up to cause trouble and defile many.

1 Pet. 4:17-18 - For it is time for judgment to begin with the family of God; and if it begins with us, what will the outcome be for those who do no obey the gospel of God? And, "If it is hard for the righteous to be saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?"

2 Pet. 3:14 - So then, dear friends, since you are looking forward to this, make every effort to be found spotless, blameless and at peace with him.

KEEP ON SINNING?

The Bible does not teach that Christians are incapable of sinning, but it does say:

John 5:14 - Later Jesus found him at the temple and said to him, "See, you are well again. Stop sinning or something worse may happen to you."

John 8:11 - "No one, sir," she said. "Then neither do I condemn you," Jesus declared. "Go now and leave your life of sin."

Rom 6:1-2 - What shall we say, then? Shall we go on sinning so that grace may increase? By no means! We died to sin; how can we live in it any longer?

Rom. 6:15 - What then? Shall we sin because we are not under law but under grace? By no means!

1 Cor. 10:13 - No temptation has seized you except what is common to man. And God is faithful; he will not let you be tempted beyond what you can bear. But when you are tempted, he will also provide a way out so that you can stand up under it.

Heb. 10:26-27 - If we deliberately keep on sinning after we have received the knowledge of the truth, no sacrifice for sins is left, but only a fearful expectation of judgment and of raging fire that will consume the enemies of God.

1 John 3:6 - No one who lives in him keeps on sinning. No one who continues to sin has either seen him or known him.

1 John 3:9 - No one who is born of God will continue to sin, because God’s seed remains in him; he cannot go on sinning, because he has been born of God.

1 John 5:18 - We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the one who was born of God keeps him safe, and the evil one cannot harm him.
