THE
WORLD
Rom.
12:1-2 - Therefore, I
urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as
living
sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God—this is your spiritual
act
of worship. Do not conform any longer to the pattern of this world, but
be
transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test
and
approve what God's will is—his good, pleasing and perfect
will.
James 1:27 -
Religion that
God our Father accepts as pure and faultless is this: to look after
orphans and
widows in their distress and to keep oneself from being polluted by the
world.
James
4:4 - You adulterous
people, don't you know that friendship with the world is hatred toward
God?
Anyone who chooses to be a friend of the world becomes an enemy of God.
2 Pet. 3:3-5
- First of all,
you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing
and
following their own evil desires. They will say, "Where is this
'coming'
he promised? Ever since our fathers died, everything goes on as it has
since
the beginning of creation." But they deliberately forget that long ago
by
God's word the heavens existed and the earth was formed out of water
and by
water.
1
John 2:15-16 - Do not love
the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love
of the
Father is not in him. For everything in the world—the cravings of
sinful man,
the lust of his eyes and the boasting of what he has and
does—comes not from
the Father but from the world.
1
John 5:19 - We know that
we are children of God, and that the whole world is under the control
of the
evil one.
Rev. 12:9 -
The great dragon
was hurled down—that ancient serpent called the devil, or
Satan, who leads the
whole world astray. He was hurled to the earth, and his angels with him.
FORMER
WAY OF
LIFE
Rom. 6:17 -
But thanks be to
God that, though you used to be slaves to sin, you wholeheartedly
obeyed the
form of teaching to which you were entrusted.
Rom
6:19 - I put this in
human terms because you are weak in your natural selves. Just as you
used to offer
the parts of your body in slavery to impurity and to
everincreasing
wickedness, so now offer them in slavery to righteousness leading to
holiness.
1
Cor. 6:11 - And that is
what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you
were justified
in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.
Eph. 2:1-2 -
As for you, you
were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live
when you
followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the
air, the
spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.
Eph.
2:3 - All of us also
lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful
nature and
following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature
objects of
wrath.
Eph.
4:22-24 - You were
taught, with regard to your former way of life, to put off your old
self, which
is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the
attitude of
your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true
righteousness and holiness.
Eph.
5:8-11 - For you were
once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of
light
(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and
truth)
and find out what pleases the Lord. Have nothing to do with the
fruitless deeds
of darkness, but rather expose them.
Col.
3:7 - You used to walk
in these ways, in the life you once lived.
Col
3:9-10 - Do not lie to each other,
since you have
taken off your old self with its practices and have put on the new
self, which
is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator.
1
Pet. 1:14 - As obedient children, do not
conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.
